ok im building a new pc (well my brothers building it for me) and i dont have a clue what motherboard to get with these components as im clueless when it comes to boards.

the following is what ive decided on so far:

Gigabyte GTX 570 1280MB GDDR5 Dual DVI Mini HDMI PCI-E Graphics Card
Intel Core i7 950 3.06GHz Socket 1366 8MB Cache Retail Boxed Processor
Corsair 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 1600MHz XMS3 Dominator Memory CL8(8-8-8--24) for i7 Motherboards

and maybe this motherboard?
Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R Intel X58 (Socket 1366) DDR3 PCI-Express Motherboard

Also what fans/coolers are good these days?

As you can tell i haven\'t done this for a while :D

any other help/advice would be appreciated :)
Are you building a rig for gaming only ? If so, dont buy a i7 based machine, you are wasting money. Get i5 system instead. Say i5-760, overclock it a bit, and you have much more horsepower for tf2 (and other games) and you save a lot of money. In general i5 *lynnfield* cpu\'s are better for games then i7.

One good cooler is Cooler Master Hyper 212+, which is also very cheap.

Wow, some people really show their lack of intelligence in this thread by just outright throwing away the content of the first post. I suppose you people consider using the options to remove smoke and force fullbright models in Quake, thus making the game much easier to read and more enjoyable to play, unfair to?

Fact is that the heavy amounts of smoke and explosions in this game (stickyspam lawl) at times makes it unnecessary hard to figure out just what the hell is going on, and just makes the game a lot less fun to play. If we aren\'t allowed to use custom particles to correct this I really hope that the people who participate in the beta pressures Valve to gives us options to lower/remove distracting particles, since it just makes the game so much more enjoyable for anyone who doesn\'t play scout. More options to customize individual gameplay is always the way to go, ie custom minimalistic huds and particles.

Nice to see like minded ppl even in here.

Anakin: 100 tickrate is better then 66, I dont care what it was \"optimized\" for. They can \"optimize\" it again for 100 tickrate. Its nice to know that there isnt hit reg issues in L4D but in TF2 there are. Especially with sniper (and hitscan weapons). Hey we could play with 15 tickrate server and as long as it was \"optimized\" for it, then it would be good? This isnt about that 66 tickrate is bad, its just 100 tickrate can be better.

Anakin: Your comment doesnt make much sense to me. Anyway if Valve can make the engine work with 100 ticrate then that would be a good thing, if not then oh well... TFTrue doesnt really fix anything, or any other mod for that matter in that regard.
