My vote goes to Extremer and Elefanten.

But did you see that there are covert agents in your group roster? There are some players that are not truly Demoman, hell, even a scout is on the list. A SCOUT! Traitorous jumpy little bastards. ;)

Fragga, I respect your skills as a soldier very much, therefore I doubt that you cannot beat a demoman. Sure, if you rj towards him on an open plain, signal your landing point and do not change your direction during flight and furthermore do not fire at him while flying, then you will lose.

But you know better than me, that you can control your point of landing, making the demos guess nothing more than a guess. Or you could land on spots where it is difficult for him to put stickies (on top of some containers).

Why do you bring up that argument?

This Demoman-is-OP-whining is lame.
Most games I watch, demoman score as much as soldiers and scouts do. If they were real super-killers like some say, then why doesn\'t he come out on top of the score-boards all the time?

But back to topic: If TFTrue eliminates the strange spread in scout-damage, that would be fine with me (though really annoying for me personally; everything that weakens scouts makes my job easier :) ).

Why demo-nerf?
Because now, I nearly never need three nades for a scout (you can do the math), so TFTrue does not really put me into a better position as a Demo. Nowadays, I need two nades and sometimes, one does the trick. With TFTrue, I will always need two nades, which puts me in a position worse than it is now.

Elimination of luck ...
It still does not justify the costs. Luck plays no real role in the outcome of a season and not even a match (you do not lose the match because of one nade but because of thirty minutes of worse play), thus the abolition of the luck factor is unnecessary, so we have no real benefit.

No benefit but existing costs = do not do it.

BTW: My chance of one-shotting a scout (assuming a damage spread of 60 - 140) would be 18.75%. The chance of needing three shots would be ~0.1%. (I assumed a linear spread. Number vary greatly with the actual damage range. If the damage range would be 65-whatever, my chance of needing three would be 0%.)
So this takes away 18.75% of something favourable and 0.1% of something bad.

That is a horrible deal and certainly a demo nerf.

With all due respect, but I think some of you guys are weak on understanding statistics.

You are trying to implement an averaging system without even knowing the characteristics of the value you want to average. You do not know its range (50/60-130/150??), you do not know its type of spread (linear or gaussian) or its standard-deviation, you do not know how often a nade inflicts damage in a normal game.

All these points and especially the last one are tremendously important in guessing the pay-off of all the hassle some of you want to put us through (stuttering, linux probs).

Do you really think, that a match gets decided by one or two lucky demo-nades?

In the course of a match a demo sure scores some 50 hits with his nade (directly and indirectly), possibly more. Over such a big number of hits, the random factor gets eliminated.

If even a luck-driven game like Poker shows that luck does not account for a big difference over the course of a season and if even in football, the outcome of a season is mostly determined by the salary payed to the players, how can you think that TF2 with its low luck-factor is luck-determined?
Do you think luck can make me play better than Ryb for even then minutes? Do you think that the worse team wins because it gets lucky three times in a row (which would be necessary to win three cap-battles and cap all five points) and that for enough rounds to beat the stronger team?

What is the pay-off, compared to the costs (instability, maintenance, computing power, hacking potential, bitching potential)? Is it worth all the trouble just to introduce a hidden demo-nerf and please some scout-players?

Well, thank you all, that was clearly helpful and with lots of insight.

I will never become a second Byte or Hymzi, that is for sure, but I want to spend my time useful and I want to give my best in order to help my team.

The general consensus seems to be PCW > Pickups > Deathmatch (?) > Public.
(I am surprised that no one recommended the airshot training maps.)

Being a Demo player, pickups are difficult as there are always a lot of good Demos around, but hey, everyone needs a second class. Well, not really. One-eyed-sexiness for life. :)

And nvc, I will have a look in our genealogy (?). Maybe there was a bum that made on of my ancestors pregnant and then fled to Austria. Brr ... what a chilly thought. :)
