Key wise I still think Cherry Brown is the best. It has good tactile feedback without the sound of blue\'s. So get a Zowie Celeritas if you want to buy a gaming brand, otherwise just get a Filco/Ducky/Leopold with browns. I really dislike cherry blacks. If you do want blacks the steel series keyboards are a good choice, because they are really cheap (the 6Gv2 at least).
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lBQqD8mv0XM&hd=1 this is beautiful. With things like mantle cancels and incredible walljumping, the SMART system - though not on par with some of the jumping mechanics from Quake and Tribes - still has huge potential if you think outside the box.
Anyone could easily do this with a TF2 scout on that map? Not exactly huge potential when compared to several existing shooters, just cool in a very gimmicky way.

TFC had conc jumps and extremely fast paced movement. Wall jumping has been in Unreal Tournament games for years, Quake has strafe jumping, Tribes has the skiing mechanic and jetpacks. All of these games feature a rocket jump mechanic or equivalent(s).

The difference between these games listed and Brink is that the movement mechanics are completely integrated into combat whilst in Brink the SMART system is merely a means to get to a particular destination and rarely can be used as a tool to gain an advantage over opposition during direct combat. Sure you can slide and peak around corners, but that\'s not exactly new by any stretch of the imagination either.

Have to say though that versatility in movement is almost always a good thing. Just a shame that everything gets slowed down when it comes to actually fighting other players.

The more I read about this game the more it seems that it is fundamentally flawed and will be complete trash as a competitive title.

For starters, why is the main selling point of the game - the \"revolutionary\" SMART movement system - almost entirely detached from the actual combat?

This is an epic fail from a game design perspective, and its cause seems to be rooted in a recurring theme that is gradually emerging - massively dumbed down gameplay geared towards making the skill ceiling as low as possible at the expense of decent fundamental mechanics.

Practically everything related to combat results in dramatically slower movement - shooting, reloading, jumping etc. Combine this with generic hitscan weapons that are incredibly easy to use and the potential for a respectable skill ceiling in ALL elements of gameplay is inherently compromised.

Maps which are packed with defensive bias and repeatedly funnel the attacking team into small chokepoints for clusterfucks just compound the issue even further, likely resulting in core gameplay comprising fights where more often than not the victor is the player that spots and sprays the opponent first. Great for baddies but fucking abysmal as a basis for dynamic and rewarding skill based competitive gaming.

I’m all for team based combat in first person shooters, but in this case I get the overwhelming impression that it’s contrived at the expense of important gameplay elements, for example the potential of an individual to “clutch” which is a fundamental component of every self respecting competitive FPS game I can conjure up. Sadly this game seems to have been designed with the intention of negating this ability as much as possible.

By comparison TF2 has pretty much the perfect balance between teamwork and individual skill. It’s nigh on impossible to carry a team as an individual as typically a TF2 team is only as strong as it\'s weakest links but that doesn’t prevent a skilled individual on the losing team from outplaying his opponents for the entire duration of the game.

Thinking about buying Brink but some of the bigger mentioned issues are really putting me off and I typically dislike FPS games filled with high damage rapid-fire rifles and SMG\'s because the skill ceiling for aim, movement and prediction drops off a cliff.

The SMART movement system seems nothing more than a gimmicky \"win button\" console port although for sure it\'s better to have it than nothing. The free movement is appealing from a gameplay perspective and nice to watch, my only issue with it is the complete lack of skill needed to execute the movements effectively.

If Splash Damage introduce something like a SMART \"PRO\" system where the user has to make use of timings and keyboard/mouse movement combinations to properly execute the crazy moves then I\'ll definately buy this game, but that sort of thing isn\'t likely to happen for months at the very least and more likely never.

There\'s certainly a lot of hype around the game right now both from a player and league perspective (ESL announced 15,000 euro tournament today for example) and many people from several different well established FPS scenes are confident this game can be an active and prosporous in a competitive format. This is the main attraction of the game for me.

I\'d recommend that any other sceptics also watch the Day 2 Panel Discussion on http://www.thebrink.tv/videos.php as they make plenty of valid points about the current and possible future state of the game.

It\'s been like this for over a decade but mainly since EA started hauling ass as a publisher and realized they can establish contracts with developers that have unrealistically short development cycles and no option for extended development. Other publishers/developers are also guilty of the same and usually it results in a pretty epic early death for the game both in public and competitive format.

It even happened way back when Tribes 2 was released in 2001 and the game almost completely died before the developers finally managed to fix most of the bugs a full year after release, at which point there was a resurgence of players. Most other titles don\'t have a resurgence, they just die and become forgotten.
