interp_ratio is used to determine which packets should be used when calculating the interpolation from one packet to the next. When set to 2, every second packet is used. The advantage of this is that if somehow a packet is lost, the next one can be used instead of the second next one. It\'s like a backup packet. So I have been wondering why it has been limited and so far none of your answers actually make sense. :<
and cmdrate/updaterate limits are there so u wont lag the shit out of everyone with ur lag compensation
Correct me if I am wrong, but netsettings are there so they can be adapted to your connection. Like I said, my friend could play fine (and he still can on publics etc.), none of the teams we played against ever complained, but now since its a minimum of 40, he lags like hell. He notices the lag, and everybody else now sees him lagging, too.

Basically these rules have crippled net settings optimization and kicked out players with bad internet connections.

Hmm I wonder, whenever I had a problem with my graphics card (and only the graphics card), the graphics were screwed, but never ever did my sound loop / stop, even if the rest froze.
So I assume it might also have to do with your motherboard. But I can\'t say for sure of course. You might try and update your motherboard drivers.

Have you checked all the other temperatures of your computer (CPU and so on)? Oh and you might wanna open up your computer and get rid of all the dust inside. That helps once in a while, too.

Other than that, I can\'t think of anything else.
Your best bet would be to narrow the problem. Maybe you have a friend who could help you, exchange your graphics card and test if the problem persists. At least that\'s what I would do before buying a new graphics card, just to find out that it didn\'t solve the problem.

It looks like you both didn\'t understand my post.

sv_maxupdaterate can be set to any values. Some stupid server admins who don\'t know that the server tickrate is 66 set sv_maxupdaterate to 100, and then some stupid players set cl_updaterate to 100 and cl_interp to 0.01. This cause them to receive 66 updates/s (because server tickrate is 66) but the interpolation time will be 10 ms, which will fuck up everything since it\'s too low for the update rate.
I would like to actually test that, but I don\'t have a server which sv_maxupdaterate i can screw up. My clans war server runs at sv_maxupdaterate 66, and when I used cl_interp 0.01 for testing purposes, it was limited to 0.0152 like I have said before.
If you have a server with which you can screw around, then I would like to test that there. Otherwise i will not believe you. :)

No you can\'t. 66 is maximum for TF2 (not for CSS though). And if sv_maxupdaterate is lower than 66, you get higher values obviously.

Chris, you seem to be quite knowledgable, yet I don\'t get why you recommend higher cmdrate and updaterate values (40-66) but let cl_interp stay the same. A basic rule for setting the cl_interp value is cl_interp_ratio / cl_updaterate (or server tick, whichever of the two is the lowest) + jitter. Jitter is basically about ~0.004.

This means an updaterate of 66 would be 1/66 = 0.0152 or 1/40 = 0.025 for cl_interp. That\'s basically the ideal value. But like I said before you have to take jitter into consideration. I (as a scout) go by these values:

rate 50000
cl_cmdrate 66
cl_updaterate 66
cl_interp 0.034
cl_interp_ratio \"2.0\"

In this case interp_ratio / updaterate is 2/66 which is about 0.030. Adding the jitter I end up with 0.034 which is perfectly fine. No yellow lerp, no packet loss, no lags etc. (I\'ve once tried the original value without jitter ~0.030 and had packet loss)
The values mentioned above are for a good and stable connection.

For a worse and less stable connection I would recommend these values:

rate 25000
cl_cmdrate 40
cl_updaterate 40
cl_interp 0.054
cl_interp_ratio \"2.0\"
