How do I get the transitions on the clips in Sony Vegas? Almost every transition I try and drag onto the clip is either nonexistent or 0.01 seconds short (and as such invisible). :S

Transition length is decided by the overlap of the 2 clips. So you drag it into the overlap of the two clips not the clip itself.

Yes, overlap two clips and you can drag transitions of top of it – to get back the old default crossfade right click the transition and choose “convert to crossfade”

Note that you can also drag transitions on top of fades and not only transitions… so you can fade a clip in with a certain look

Got it working now, thanks guys.

Transitions are generally pretty bad anyway. A good old fashioned cut is the best thing to do 99% of the time, although blur in/out’s and flash in/out’s can work stylistically if used correctly.

But those stupid dissolve things and the like, ewww… Just don’t use them. :)

Related bump:

I’ve got a bit of text now that I move out of the screen that I want to fade out at the same time. However, dragging a fade out onto it just replaces the move out. It’s currently either fade out or move out but I want both. How to do that?

Maybe reducing the alpha of the text, or using an FX, maybe levels.

Can’t achieve the same effect with the pan/crop tools and a fade out?

See the little arrow at the corner of the clip? Drag it, it will cause a fade.

Where? I haven’t got a little arrow anywhere.
