If you get the error “A referral was returned by the server”, look here:

The program can’t start because libprotobuf.dll is missing from your computer :|

Drop that exe in your Mumble folder in Program Files (replacing the old one).

if you’re lazy just extract this and you’re good to go: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/7296100/mumbles.rar

This is the fix

run as XP service pack 3
Run as admin

do these 2, worked for me

running mumble 1.2.3 if you want to ask about update

frymaster

No need to run as admin. A security update from Microsoft has expired a security certificate mumble was using. Updated installers are available:

Uninstall mumble first

Mumble 1.2.3 installer
Latest (as of this post) mumble snapshot

Especially if you use the overlay, I reccommend running the snapshots. There’s known issues on 1.2.3 where mumble UI lag can cause fps drops

I reinstalled and it kept all my settings, Daleth. Maybe try that?

AnimaL

the server list and settings are saved in %appdata%/mumble folder… u do need to backup your certificate though to keep authorization in servers

I un-installed mumble before seeing the post of the mumble blog and I can’t install it with the new links.
Just says “This installation package could not be opened. Contact the application vendor to verify this is a real Windows Installer Package.”
Any ideas?

Trane

Try the snapshot version

dl this, and put it in your mumble folder in program files, switch it with your old mumble.exe and it’ll works.

It works for me, I re installed mumble too, before I see this, but nvm my friends helped me, so it should work for everyone. :3

When I try and open either installer (snapshot or normal) and I get the same error message “This installation package could not be opened. Contact the application vendor to verify this is a valid Windows Installer package.
I’ve un-installed mumble so I can’t do the simple replace mumble.exe for the new one.
I’ve disabled UAC.
Still stuck
Help anyone? :/
Edit: Fixed it, just copied someone elses program files mumble folder
