I’ve not seen Oldboy for a while good film.

Speaking of Korean, The good, The bad and The Strange is a good film. Odd but a good way to waste an hour or two.

Some lesser known movies I’d rate 9/10:

The Prestige http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0482571/
In Bruges http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0780536/
Danny Boyle’s Sunshine http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0448134/
Akira http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0094625/

Also if you haven’t seen it yet watch The Matrix http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0133093/
Don’t bother with 2 and 3 though.

After reading this thread I went and watched Moon http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1182345/ , Lost in Translation http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0335266/ and The Departed http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0407887/ . These are all awesome movies that really make you think but are also kinda depressing, keep that in mind.

Speaking of Danny Boyle, the amazing http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0117951Trainspotting should be seen by everyone, http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0111149Shallow Grave is great and a little known work of his which is utterly charming and quite different called http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0366777Millions is well worth a look too.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1235796Ondine with Colin Farrell is a really nice piece of film making, worth checking out even if you don’t normally like Colin, and Phone Booth is quite cool too, especially if you don’t like Colin…he has a bad time in that one.

No where near enough Coen Brothers films being mentioned either, what’s wrong with the youth of today…I mean, seriously, superb film makers.

Check out http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0118715The Big Lebowski, http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0100150Miller’s Crossing, http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0110074The Hudsucker Proxy, http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0190590O’ Brother Where Art Thou?, http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0116282Fargo, http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0477348No Country For Old Men, http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0101410Barton Fink….more or less anything with their name on is worth some time. I do utterly love John Turturro though, him and John Goodman are involved a lot with the Coen’s films, which is fine by me.

I think http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0209144Memento has been mentioned already but is worth mentioning again as it’s one of best films ever made imho, dat Chris Nolan is such a boss!

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1250777Kick Ass totally surprised me with how good it was, well worth a look.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0246578Donnie Darko is a great, weird little film and Jake Gyllenhaal is brilliant in it playing a troubled teen alongside his rl sister Maggie.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0457430Pan’s Labyrinth, dark.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0070917The Wicker Man, (original only), is great.

All the classics like Godfather, Scarface, Pulp Dogs, Goodfellas, Taxi Driver, Apocalypse Now, Clockwork Orange, Shawshank, Schindler’s List, Silence of the Lambs, The Shining, Gladiator, Alien(s) etc should be watched for comparison value alone.

I wonder if anyone will actually watch any films recommended by anyone else or if this is all just a waste of a lunch time?

Ah well, go watch these films and be a richer person. Have fun and good luck.

Two Colin Farrell film mentions Monkeh, and neither of them are ‘In Bruges’, I am disappoint.

Good list though. <3 Coen Brothers (also see True Grit and Burn after Reading).

I’d list pretty much all the Coen brothers films honestly, Fargo, True Grit, The Big Lebowski, No Country for Old Men, Miller’s Crossing. There’s a couple I didnt like quite so much I think Barton Fink was one I didnt like. Just despised the main character from the start and couldnt get into it. I love the music in O’ Brother Where Art Thou as well as it being a really well written and directed film.

Pan’s Labyrinth is an amazing film, one of my all time favourites there.

12 Angry Men – a good old film, Black and white film discussion of guilt for some kid.

Vertigo – from Hitchcock was good.

Das Boot – also good.

I wonder why you guys missed Blood Simple and The Man Who Wasn’t There in this list. So overlooked films.

Easily the best Nolan’s film. His first full-lenth work is also worth mentioning – http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0154506Following. An example of what 6000 pounds budget can do to your brain when made by a talented director.

Also I wonder why nobody mentioned http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0405094Das Leben der Anderen (The Lives of Others). German cinema at its best, possibly the best movie of the 2000s.

watched Changeling by Clint Eastwood yesterday and it was tremendous! seriously, it’s the best movie with Angelina Jolie i’ve seen so far and i doubt that there ever will be something better.

oh and by the way, it’s strange that nobody has mentioned What Dreams May Come. even though the rating is only 6.7 i’d still strongly recommend it.

Seconded – What Dreams May Come is an excellent film.
also Pontypool, Waking Life, Bladerunner/The Matrix (if for whatever reason you haven’t seen either of these), The Fifth Element, Tropic Thunder, Chronicle, Megamind (surprisingly good), London Boulevard, Scott Pilgrim vs The World and a bunch of other stuff. Sans Solei is great if you want to break away from hollywood bullshit too – its a film about travel and memory.

Also, Community ought to count as a weekend-long film if you watch it marathon style. I recommend that.

Don’t really care for Colin Farrell but he starred in 2 really great movies: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0780536In Bruges and http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0170691Tigerland.

Yeah Coen brothers, especially when combined with Roger Deakins’ cinematography, makes for amazing cinema. It feels like http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0887883Burn After Reading (actually without Deakins) is generally regarded as one of the lowpoints on their cinematic track record, but I think it’s awesome :D
