i am in need of an AM2 socket CPU for i40, i am bringing this PC with me for a mate (i am bringing an phenom II x4 955, HD5750x2, 4gb ram for myself) but this PC is pretty crap (mATX motherboard (i beleive its an asus M2N-MX) with an nvdia 6700XL GPU and two gigs of memory and an athlon 64 3200+)
now, i know that CPU is not nearly enough, i can only get TF2 to run on it at bare minimum settings at 40fps, and that was quite a while ago.
improving the videocard (tried an 8800GT and HD4870) did almost nothing to the framerate, so i think the best is to replace the CPU for a bit of FPS increase, and i beleive the best is to replace the CPU. During my search, i stumbeled upon a very cheap AMD athlon X2 4600+, and i would like to know if someone has a CPU like this one, so i can make a proper purchase instead of still getting unplayable FPS.
so yeah, is the AMD athlon X2 4600+ any good for TF2?
I used to have an athlon x2 5600+ 2,9ghz and I had 90 fps average on 6v6 with more’s highfps config so.. :p
I used to have an athlon 6000+ X2 3.0 GHz and get 50 fps on dx8.
Fuck AMD dualcores for TF2.

well i had 4600+ for a few years, with m0re fps config, dx8 and low video settings – its about 60-100 fps, but it was often going down to terrible number (20-30) for a split second, and it was reeeeeeaaallly disgusting.
now i have i5 750 and its soooooooooo cewl ^___^

Never had problems with AMD Multicores and TF2. Always had average FPS of 70-80 with an X2 6000+, and am now having averages of 100+ FPS with a Phenom X4 9550.
With all settings maxed out ofc.
