i think 1 year is enough to see changes in national teams since an e-sport is much less enduring then a standard sport where national leagues occurs every 2/3/4 years

Its bullshit to have a hl nations cup and not a 6v6 nations cup

I think having the Nations Cup less often would make it more prestigious, currently it’s usually the same players (roughly) for each country each year. It’s not as interesting if you do it every year in my opinion. Add in the fact that the majority of players who would be in the top 6v6NC teams are busy practicing for i55, I’m sure they aren’t too disappointed.

Also a reminder that Highlander has less seasons per year than 6v6.

Now this is actually an interesting point. While I think esports, specially tf2 playerpool is highly volatile and the national team in just 1 year can change completely it kinda gives more importance to it if there’s a space between then?

What if it was like the euros/world cup, those are every 4 years, this means every 2 years theres a big one, obviously Im not suggesting that but what if we make it every 2 years but alternating, so 1 year we would have the HL nations cup, another year we would have 6s nation cup.

Make them rarer, thus of more significance, the only issue is that I really think esports have a very short lifespan and players are very volatile so maybe this isn’t as beneficial as it would be for a normal sport.

Other than this I really hope the 6s nation cup becomes a reality, even if you have to ask for volunteers or something

The idea of taking turn between 6s and HL sounds interesting, would provide even better Nations Cup teams for highlander aswell, since the interest from good 6s players would potentially rise.

Because kids don’t like the idea something they prefer isn’t preferred by everyone. Same logic why homophobia exists.

I would rather have 3 seasons per year than a Nations Cup.

With that said, HL one seems to be taken more seriously within the HL community than the 6’s one is. One of my personal highlights being USA vs England last year. Looking forward to a rematch with them, England vs USA Part 2: The Legend of Goreston strikes again!

To put an end to all the nonsense posted here.
Earlier this year we decided to have only one nations cup each year. So one year a hl nc and the next year a 6s nc and so on.
This is not because of lacking manpower!
As Permzilla said we intend to raise the importance and prestige of the nations cup. Having a nations cup every year does not achieve that. Do we have football world cups each year? I dont think so.
Additionally if players dont have to decide if they are going to play in 6s or hl nc this will lead to an increase in skill. This is not about 6s players flooding the hl nc teams again. But certain 6s players may be as good in their hl role as they are in their 6s role. So they wont have to choose either or.
Also a major concern of ours is, that supporting both ncs with prizes at the same time is extremely tricky and pretty much impossible. Especially since a major source of income for us has decided its time to pull out (no hate, extremely thankful still). But the problem remains, we will have bigger problems than ever to finance the upcoming seasons after S21. So you should not expect a cash prize! Fundraisers are not really an option either. In the ncs a lot less teams are involved than in any season. In the end it is “only” a cup and our focus remains on being able to support our seasons with prize pools.
Finally we have decided to start with the hl nc because it fits better into the schedule and for no other reason really.
Expect more details soon.

That sounds reasonable, I predicted it well then, just wondering why it wasn’t explicitly announced earlier, leaving people in expectation for both NCs was bad imo.

After seeing the arguments I totally agree that alternating NCs is the right call but

Fundraisers are not really an option either.

What’s the problem with fundraisers?

It’s not sustainable to run fundraisers all the time. My guess is he wants to role it out for other tournaments, and doesn’t wanna tire people out.

There are 4 fundraisers going on the tf2 community at the moment, deutschlan, froyo, ascent, TLR, I dont really think we have much more margin for crowdfunding in our community.

I like the idea of rotating the NC each year, just hope this game lifespan is long enough to sustain it.

Yeah… that’s my fear : Prolly we’ll see just a few more 6v6 NC then.
I also hoped to see 6v6’s NC this summer since MM and twitch integration shouldn’t be too far.
