Oh when you say it starts on the 11th (Friday) does that mean we need to arrive on Friday, or we have to arrive on the Thursday before to prepare?

Also do we know if it’s morning, afternoon or night we should arrive?

we’ll release more info soon, as my main exam season is over (still one to go) and i got more time now. you can arrive on thursday (for +15€) and can stay til monday (another +15€). the games will probably start on friday late afternoon/evening, so you should arrive a few hours prior. more info to come

if you sign up as a team and pay, but in the end the plan falls through before everyone has paid (because of people cancelling etc, suddenly not being able to make it bc of dead family members or whatever) do we get a refund?

sign up process:
1. the team leader collects the money from his mates
2. the team leader signs his team up and rents a house by paying at least 50%
3. iirc 2 weeks before the event all the money needs to be there
4. gonna ask the organisers about refunds, but pretty sure there will be

ah this makes more sense, thought we were paying individually not as a team. (sorry if this is made clear in opening post, i am a bad reader)

I can resemble a grill with a proper lighting, can I live in that house?

Anyone know the best way to potentially travel from Paris or Brussels? The UK guys on our team aim to be taking the Eurostar, but aren’t sure the best way to travel from those places to Cologne. Airports are likely a no-go since we’d rather not put our PC’s in baggage, trains to Germany cost an arm and a leg, and Deox has a chronic fear of the Dara O’Brien lookalike on the Megabus logo (plus Megabus is awful for international travel).

And no, we’re not hitching.

EDIT: I just found out Nieheim is ages away from Cologne…help.

For everyone travelling and not just RTC I recommend to check out http://www.rome2rio.com/ shows many options with both buses, trains and carpooling.

If it’s not much harder for them I’d definitely go from Brussels.

recently http://www.flixbus.com has been really popular for travelling in germany and neighboring countries. cheaper than per train, no strikes, new people. i personally don’t use it because i always go by car, but lots of my rl friends (let’s just assume i have some) recommend it.

Flixbus is fine, there are other companies as well. I can recommend https://www.busliniensuche.de/ or http://www.fernbusse.de/ to search for all of them. Not sure which is the best city near Nieheim though, it depends on which city is serviced by the respective bus company. It would probably be best to take the bus to Bielefeld, Detmold, Bad Oeynhausen or Paderborn (maybe even Hannover or Dortmund) and use a regional train/bus for the rest of the way. There might be more convenient stops, though.

It’s probably worth it either way, considering the bus services are dirt cheap compared to conventional IC/ICE trains if you buy the ticket reasonably early.
