Idling Problem...

I try to idle and when i minimize the game crashes it doesn’t happen any other time apart from when I idle. So for example I could tab out during a pcw etc. and it would be fine just not when i’m idling anyone know why ? its really irritating.
Inb4 why idle its gay.
Its for when i’m on my pc doing work etc just want it running in the background

Tried with textmode?
Create a shortcut like this on your desktop and name it “Idler”, then once it is launched browse to a server using the Steam server browser.
Shortcut path should be something like this:
"C:SLASHProgram FilesSLASHSteamSLASHSteam.exe" -applaunch 440 -textmode -noshaderapi -nosound -nopreload -novid -noipx -nojoy
Set “Start in” to:
"C:SLASHProgram FilesSLASHSteam"
EDIT: lol why does this forum remove slashes, i’ll just put SLASH where they should be

I use XP too, I think you might be at the wrong bit (using wizard or something).

Yes, but I for one would rather not change it every time I want to launch up TF2 to play an actual game.
My TF2 always crashes after some 2h+ of idling and sadly this didn’t seem to help. But thanks for this tip anyway.
(btw fault module=client.dll if someone happens to know a fix to this crashing problem…)

I haven’t played over 2h in a row on the same server, so couldn’t tell.

Could be all number of things, but often client.dll crashes out because of badly made entities (like custom skins/particles) etc that cause memory leaks, or at least memory errors.

I’m guessing you’re using the beta UI? This is a complete guess, but maybe the beta UI now depreciates entirely the use of -applaunch.
Try doing it manually then, just create a shortcut with the following target, and what I said above as “start in”:
"C:SLASHProgram FilesSLASHSteamSLASHSteam.exe" -applaunch 440 -textmode -noshaderapi -nosound -nopreload -novid -noipx -nojoy
