Nice :]

Should be interesting to see how it works out. :)

They might make a Mac-version of Steam, but I find it highly unlikely that they convert their Source Engine-based games to Mac.

i forsee this as a really naive comment but how did it take valve so long to think about making tf2 compatible with mac… must be missing something here :D

To be honest i doubt many gamer kids will use macs i assume it will mainly be people into computer media etc. Macs seem to be alot more associated with work than fun and games, but Apple seem to be trying to change that so maybe in 10 years Macs will replace PCs :p if they start to get alot more upgradable that is.

The Source-engine (which TF2 is built upon) is based on DirectX, a Microsoft-technology that only works on Windows. That is why I heavily doubt that they have ported TF2 to Mac.

However, there are ways to “emulate” DirectX on Mac (and Linux), so I guess it is possible they will use some kind of emulation to run Source-engine games on Mac.

Source engine have been already ported to PS3, which means they already have working OpenGL version. In fact, Valve published a paper about challenges of moving from PC to cross platform development: http://www.valvesoftware.com/publications/2008/GDC2008_CrossPlatformDevelopment.pdf

No native linux steam? :D

WiK?

Granted that the entirety of valve’s flagship titles use source, I can’t see them bothering to port the steam app without porting the engine also.
