lol whatever you say guys, I said all these things as the swiss system was announced, so it’s not like it’s something new.

correlation =/= causation!!!
scissors you applied for high and got into high and then got smashed how would it have been any different if you joined div 2 and got smashed by div 2 teams?

but yeah the amount of drops is gonna be huge this season
Average drop rate since S8: 21%
Worst drop rate ever (non-AFS): 32% (S9)
Current S20 rate at halfway point: 15%
Considering there are no wildcards this season, about ~25% drop rate at end of the season would still be decent.
For first half, drops might be accelerated by:
– Some weird NA/SA Archimedes Cup teams signing up
– Teams not understanding the Swiss system or lack of wildcards completely yet
– Bad luck, like 4 High teams folding before playing any matches

Also we are usually replacing teams until at least week 2, resulting in sometimes 10-20 teams coming in late. This season since we were not bound to creating groups of 8, we included everyone who signed up. And only replaced like 3-4 teams later on when teams signed up after the deadline and others dropped.

Most of the teams that dropped in High and Mid are teams that would have folded in the old system and don’t come as huge surprises. Open is totally different though.
I feel like my team which has had a lot of issues would have possibly folded under the old system, or been closer to it, but swiss system gives you slack if you have issues for a few weeks by dropping you down the table. Don’t really understand why it would make you more likely to fold.
Just a comparison in the amount of team dropped starting with S15
S15 = 57 Dropped
S16 = 56 Dropped
S17 = 49 Dropped
S18 = 50 Dropped
S19 = 42 Dropped
S20 = 54 Dropped (Currently)
And we’re about to start Week 5
