So yeah, my Logitech G15 is pretty much at the end of it’s usefull life as a gaming keyboard. The rubbers beneath a few of the keys are starting to tear which fucks up the tactile response, it’s also pretty annoying to have to remove a key and put the rubber in it’s normal position every 60 – 80 minutes.

Ideally I’d like something with mechanical switches, if anyone is able to recommend a good keyboard with a nice tactile response that is easy to clean I’d be very grateful (being able to remove all the keys is a must pretty much).

I’m also considering a game pad (something like the n52e) but I’ve heard varying stories about how they are when compared to a proper keyboard for gaming.

I dont want to derail the thread but how much do you benefit from a gaming keyboard?

Can the keys be removed to clean the keyboard? And what kind of switches does it use (mechanical/plastic)?

I checked the site and it doesn’t state anything about either (though guessing by the price it’s probably not mechanical switches).

I’m not looking for a gaming keyboard perse, I’d probably use an old IBM Model-M keyboard if I could get my hands on one. But I guess a good gaming keyboard would have a good tactile response and keyswitches that can last quite some time, the benefit of those being the keyboard gives good tactile feedback and lasts longer, but you could find those properties in a keyboard that isn’t specificly marked at “gamers” I guess.

get an ps2 keyboard where you can mash more than 3-4 buttons at once without getting a system beep or taking more power from the usb :)

One reason you want to game on at least a decent keyboard is that cheaper ones tend to use weird shortcuts for key functions that sometimes prevent key press combinations. For example, on my crappy keyboard, I can’t do a run+jump while I have scoreboard open. :(
