Ask kaidus for the temps, he’s usually there.

Firstly yes people like Wrock and Rising deserve a perm invite (imo) anyone who has played a full season in div1/prem should get one (as Skeej said)

In div2/3 teams however there are definitely more skilled players than others in the same team. A decent team of friends may be carrying a weak link who can’t compete at that level by themselves. Yet they would still want an invite because other better players in their team have an invite. There are just so many other reason why it wouldn’t work. Also as someone pointed out earlier, an influx of weaker players would lead to higher players leaving and doing dbl-mixes… This is where the circle-jerk is created; not in Pu2, and I hate circle-jerks.

Everyone seems to think that an invite to pu2 will instantly make them better and that this is the arena for improvement. In some cases yes it is and people do improve. But people are becoming circular in their reasoning and saying they should get an invite into pu2 so they can improve AND THEN justify their place in pu2.

There are so many better ways of improving; a personal fave of mine is called getting a team and playing other TEAMS regularly… you know, i think it may be called a pcw?
Occasionally doing well and killing top players in a Pug doesn’t have shit on killing top players when they are fighting alongside their actual team with communication, chemistry and cohesion. A top player doesn’t necessarily mean prem stars, they’re tailored to your own skill, whoever are strong in your division or above.

So please quit the whining The whole of tf2 won’t reach div 2/1/prem; if you honestly think you’re worthy at playing in pu2 then you have nothing to lose by asking.

I’ve never sucked any high players dicks, I’ve never played a pickup, still went from div 6 to div1.

Story of your life isn’t it. But it’s okay, we enjoy carrying you.

And Byte, I was under the impression we only had to message an admin if a player underperformed and not if he was doing well (Setlet for example).

But Skeej is right. Go play in pixel pickup and get that active again. A lot of players did the same years ago with the multiplay pug channel. I played tons of games there until people were like “yeah he can play pug2 now”. Kaidus also played a lot of games there. And Fragga (:D). I’m sure there are plenty more examples.

I also agree that div1+ is auto perm invite. But div2 just is too big of a gap to be just auto-invited.

9:27 PM – Saudi Arabi Money Rich: yo slin, just a quick question cause i have a problem over here :D Basiclly whats happening atm is that we have hard times filling our invite only and open pugs with people that are willing to play and i was just wondering how you guys managed to always have pugs going on and keep people playing
9:27 PM – Saudi Arabi Money Rich: what systems you use
9:27 PM – Saudi Arabi Money Rich: or maybe if you run competitions
9:27 PM – Saudi Arabi Money Rich: idk
9:27 PM – Saudi Arabi Money Rich: :D
9:27 PM – Saudi Arabi Money Rich: ipz here btw :)
Saudi Arabi Money Rich has changed their name to cc//ipz-.
9:27 PM – MR SLIN: sup ipz
9:27 PM – MR SLIN: uhhh
9:27 PM – MR SLIN: well
9:27 PM – MR SLIN: which do you want to start with
9:27 PM – MR SLIN: or both?
9:28 PM – cc//ipz-: everything :)
9:28 PM – MR SLIN: well
9:28 PM – cc//ipz-: gonna link you a forum topic to it
9:28 PM – MR SLIN: shit if anything you’d think that your pugs would fill faster
9:28 PM – cc//ipz-: http://etf2l.org/forum/general/topic-23331/page-1/
9:28 PM – MR SLIN: your viewership for invite matches is way superior to ours
9:28 PM – MR SLIN: i think i saw like
9:28 PM – MR SLIN: for the match today or yesterday for you
9:28 PM – MR SLIN: there was like 900 people watching
9:28 PM – cc//ipz-: ye
9:28 PM – MR SLIN: it was insane
9:28 PM – cc//ipz-: sometimes
9:28 PM – cc//ipz-: noone knows why
9:28 PM – cc//ipz-: we get 2.5k
9:28 PM – cc//ipz-: :D
9:29 PM – MR SLIN: ya thats awesome
9:29 PM – cc//ipz-: its silly
9:29 PM – MR SLIN: so i have no idea why you have a hard time filling pugs
9:29 PM – MR SLIN: unless the pug culture is bad
9:29 PM – cc//ipz-: but our community doesnt seem to be intrested in any pug system
9:29 PM – MR SLIN: do people offclass and make it not fun
9:29 PM – cc//ipz-: nah
9:29 PM – cc//ipz-: like
9:29 PM – MR SLIN: well at least they watch games our community is not interested in watching matches
9:30 PM – cc//ipz-: mhhhh
9:30 PM – cc//ipz-: yeah
9:30 PM – cc//ipz-: people just dont play
9:30 PM – MR SLIN: ya or no
9:30 PM – MR SLIN: lol
9:30 PM – cc//ipz-: and if we ply
9:30 PM – cc//ipz-: we have like 2-3 invite pugs a day
9:30 PM – cc//ipz-: and the open ones are empty
9:30 PM – cc//ipz-: but it seems like
9:31 PM – cc//ipz-: that the NA community just really likes to play
9:31 PM – cc//ipz-: and i heard you had like pug competions
9:31 PM – MR SLIN: we do but its not as often as you’d think
9:31 PM – MR SLIN: and the pugs are mostly filled by
9:32 PM – MR SLIN: people who are teamless and dont get to play otherwise
9:32 PM – cc//ipz-: the link i gave you discribes the mood in the community really good
9:32 PM – cc//ipz-: good people not willing to play with “shitters”
9:32 PM – MR SLIN: ya
9:32 PM – MR SLIN: its kind of the same here
9:32 PM – cc//ipz-: and shitters not willing to play anything but invite pugs
9:32 PM – cc//ipz-: …
9:32 PM – cc//ipz-: so noone plays
9:32 PM – cc//ipz-: how is this captain mode thingy working?
9:32 PM – MR SLIN: basically
9:32 PM – cc//ipz-: if you have somthing better to do atm just go for it :D
9:32 PM – MR SLIN: we dont have limits on our channels
9:32 PM – cc//ipz-: dont want to steal your time
9:32 PM – cc//ipz-: hehe
9:32 PM – MR SLIN: anyone of any level
9:32 PM – MR SLIN: can add up to the pug
9:33 PM – MR SLIN: we have 2 pug channels with different levels per say
9:33 PM – MR SLIN: that people sort of sort themselves out to
9:33 PM – MR SLIN: the lower channel has a captain system
9:33 PM – MR SLIN: and then if anyone gets fatkidded
9:33 PM – MR SLIN: they’re guaranteed to play the next pug
9:33 PM – MR SLIN: you can only add up as 1 class
9:33 PM – MR SLIN: and captain
9:33 PM – MR SLIN: if you add captain the system randomly chooses 2
9:33 PM – MR SLIN: thats #tf2mix
9:33 PM – MR SLIN: the other one is #tf2.pug.na
9:34 PM – MR SLIN: and that one is purely captain
9:34 PM – MR SLIN: so if you get fatkidded you may not play at all
9:34 PM – MR SLIN: ever
9:34 PM – MR SLIN: depending on who captains
9:34 PM – MR SLIN: now
9:34 PM – MR SLIN: the way it works is
9:34 PM – MR SLIN: if you pick a team that loses 0-5
9:34 PM – MR SLIN: cause we play first to 5 in NA
9:34 PM – MR SLIN: then you’re banned from captain for a day
9:34 PM – MR SLIN: this is to discourage people from picking shit teams
9:34 PM – MR SLIN: but the thing about pug.na is
9:34 PM – MR SLIN: the pugs deteriorate
9:35 PM – MR SLIN: depending on how many people add up
9:35 PM – MR SLIN: if not many
9:35 PM – MR SLIN: the pug is usually bad
9:35 PM – MR SLIN: if good people are added
9:35 PM – MR SLIN: more people are encouraged to add cause they see that good people are added
9:35 PM – MR SLIN: thats sort of how it works
9:35 PM – MR SLIN: and i dunno i wouldn’t say the pug community here is fantastic
9:35 PM – MR SLIN: like i said its mostly people without teams
9:35 PM – MR SLIN: and pugs straight up die except for the lowbies during scrim times
9:36 PM – MR SLIN: theres a 3rd channel not run by the 6v6 community called
9:36 PM – MR SLIN: #tf2.pug.nahl
9:36 PM – MR SLIN: thats for highlander
9:36 PM – MR SLIN: and they’re a bit weird but
9:36 PM – MR SLIN: they fill pugs throughout the night
9:36 PM – MR SLIN: they’ll start around 11pm est
9:36 PM – MR SLIN: and go until 5am est
9:36 PM – cc//ipz-: :D
9:36 PM – MR SLIN: 6v6 pugs go from 6pm est until 1am est
9:36 PM – MR SLIN: so yea
9:36 PM – MR SLIN: and then lobbies which we all know
9:36 PM – MR SLIN: but
9:36 PM – MR SLIN: i dunno why you guys would have problems with your open pugs
9:37 PM – MR SLIN: unless you dont use captain
9:37 PM – MR SLIN: in which case no wonder
9:37 PM – MR SLIN: i’m looking at the OP
9:37 PM – MR SLIN: and i think its silly to have limits on who can even join the channel
9:37 PM – MR SLIN: the whole point of the captain system is to sort people
9:37 PM – MR SLIN: and sorting on top of a sort is redundant
9:38 PM – cc//ipz-: yeah that was exactly why i asked you, to find out what this captain system is doing, and yes its really silly to have it closed
9:38 PM – MR SLIN: yeah
9:38 PM – MR SLIN: cause if you wanna get multiple pugs going at once
9:38 PM – MR SLIN: which we rarely do
9:38 PM – MR SLIN: you gotta open it up to everyone
9:38 PM – MR SLIN: and trust that the captain system will work itself out
9:38 PM – MR SLIN: people wont pick the baddies they’ll pick the best options
9:38 PM – cc//ipz-: ofc yeah
9:39 PM – cc//ipz-: well thats something to think about i guess for us
9:39 PM – cc//ipz-: to improve
9:39 PM – MR SLIN: also our pug bot is interesting in that it crashes if more than like 24 add so its rather silly but we never really ever get there
9:39 PM – cc//ipz-: :D
9:39 PM – MR SLIN: k and then invite pugs
9:39 PM – MR SLIN: its run by a dedicated person who everyone thinks is good
9:39 PM – MR SLIN: in this case b4nny
9:39 PM – MR SLIN: hes always on
9:39 PM – MR SLIN: and hes always good
9:39 PM – MR SLIN: you’ve seen the streams before right?
9:39 PM – MR SLIN: everyone hops in mumble
9:40 PM – MR SLIN: in spectator
9:40 PM – MR SLIN: first 2 to hop in get medic
9:40 PM – MR SLIN: ubersaw fight to decide first pick
9:40 PM – MR SLIN: then 1-2-2-2-2-1
9:40 PM – MR SLIN: er w/e
9:40 PM – MR SLIN: i missed a 2
9:40 PM – cc//ipz-: yeah
9:40 PM – cc//ipz-: we call it “spec attack”
9:40 PM – cc//ipz-: :D
9:40 PM – MR SLIN: yea
9:40 PM – MR SLIN: its that simple
9:40 PM – MR SLIN: the problem we’ve had lately is
9:40 PM – MR SLIN: we had them like literally every night
9:40 PM – MR SLIN: people started taking them for granted
9:40 PM – MR SLIN: dicking around
9:40 PM – MR SLIN: using banned weapons
9:41 PM – MR SLIN: so b4nny has cancelled invite pugs starting this week for the next few weeks
9:41 PM – cc//ipz-: :/
9:41 PM – MR SLIN: that way everyone will not take it for granted and play them seriously
9:41 PM – MR SLIN: other than that its fine
9:41 PM – cc//ipz-: so its like our doublemixes basiclly
9:41 PM – cc//ipz-: thing is , how do you keep people from offclassing
9:41 PM – cc//ipz-: like
9:41 PM – cc//ipz-: is not playing at all the only way to like
9:41 PM – cc//ipz-: handle that problem in the end?
9:42 PM – cc//ipz-: cause thats what they do in our late night double mixes
9:42 PM – cc//ipz-: just offclass and fool arround
9:42 PM – cc//ipz-: and the next day they open a forum thread about to few pug2s happening
9:42 PM – cc//ipz-: …
9:44 PM – MR SLIN: lol
9:44 PM – MR SLIN: the most important part is to have a respected member of the community as the pug leader
9:44 PM – MR SLIN: and he sets the tone
9:44 PM – MR SLIN: no bullshit
9:44 PM – MR SLIN: and also these things tend to circle jerk so
9:44 PM – MR SLIN: if one captain is part of a circle jerk
9:44 PM – MR SLIN: he might pick his circle jerk friends
9:44 PM – MR SLIN: who will also dick around
9:44 PM – MR SLIN: ban that fucker
9:45 PM – MR SLIN: or get someone else to medic
9:45 PM – MR SLIN: who will take it seriously
9:45 PM – MR SLIN: and the reason i say have a pug leader is
9:45 PM – MR SLIN: that person has to be a tryhard
9:45 PM – MR SLIN: then everyone else will tryhard
9:49 PM – MR SLIN LFT: whos your best player
9:49 PM – MR SLIN LFT: in ETF2L
9:49 PM – MR SLIN LFT: who plays the most
9:49 PM – MR SLIN LFT: who everyone likes
9:49 PM – MR SLIN LFT: also
9:49 PM – MR SLIN LFT: is your invite pug system closed
9:49 PM – MR SLIN LFT: or do you use irc
9:49 PM – MR SLIN LFT: the double mixes
9:50 PM – cc//ipz-: doublemixes is circle jerk only
9:50 PM – cc//ipz-: and the pug2
9:50 PM – cc//ipz-: the invite pug
9:50 PM – cc//ipz-: is closed
9:50 PM – MR SLIN LFT: k yea keep it that way
9:51 PM – MR SLIN LFT: steam group only
9:51 PM – MR SLIN LFT: anyways
9:51 PM – MR SLIN LFT: get your best ETF2L player to step it up
9:51 PM – MR SLIN LFT: tryhard
9:51 PM – MR SLIN LFT: and everyone else will tryhard
9:51 PM – MR SLIN LFT: he doesn’t have to main class
9:51 PM – MR SLIN LFT: b4nny never plays demo
9:51 PM – MR SLIN LFT: but he has to play the offclasses well and comm like hes in a match
9:52 PM – cc//ipz-: ye
9:53 PM – cc//ipz-: thanks a lot :D
9:53 PM – cc//ipz-: maybe we can get some nice ideas now
9:53 PM – cc//ipz-: and not just people whining about not getting invited etc
9:53 PM – cc//ipz-: there are people
9:54 PM – cc//ipz-: loosing all there games in div1
9:54 PM – cc//ipz-: so they are div2
9:54 PM – cc//ipz-: but they claim to be div1 and pug2 invite worthy
9:54 PM – cc//ipz-: its silly :D
9:54 PM – MR SLIN LFT: ya i mean thats dumb
9:54 PM – MR SLIN LFT: like
9:54 PM – MR SLIN LFT: look at the invite pugs
9:54 PM – MR SLIN LFT: decimate and shrugger arent even on teams but they’re among the first people to get picked in pugs cause
9:54 PM – MR SLIN LFT: like shrugger for example almost always plays his main
9:54 PM – MR SLIN LFT: and its fun to play when the scouts are tryharding and hitting every shot
9:55 PM – MR SLIN LFT: nobody wants to offclass against that its no fun
9:55 PM – MR SLIN LFT: and they’re always first picked cause they’re trying hard and raping
9:58 PM – cc//ipz-: basiclly
9:59 PM – cc//ipz-: out of 12 people in pug2, 8 are offclassing
9:59 PM – cc//ipz-: i guess
9:59 PM – cc//ipz-: if they just make it an strict onclass pug
9:59 PM – cc//ipz-: it would work out way better
9:59 PM – cc//ipz-: like
9:59 PM – cc//ipz-: i am always playing main
9:59 PM – cc//ipz-: and lately i hate fucking playing pugs
9:59 PM – cc//ipz-: cause i have everyone arround me offclassing
9:59 PM – cc//ipz-: and as a soldier
9:59 PM – cc//ipz-: you just die if you dont have any teamplay going on
10:00 PM – cc//ipz-: i just dont enjoy it at all that way
10:00 PM – cc//ipz-: sry for my poor english btw, im from germany :))
10:00 PM – MR SLIN LFT: naw your english is very good
10:00 PM – MR SLIN LFT: very understandable
10:00 PM – MR SLIN LFT: but
10:00 PM – MR SLIN LFT: actually
10:00 PM – MR SLIN LFT: in invite pugs NA
10:00 PM – MR SLIN LFT: people tend to offclass too
10:01 PM – MR SLIN LFT: especially when IM players get involved
10:01 PM – MR SLIN LFT: but
10:01 PM – MR SLIN LFT: the offclassing isnt whats important
10:01 PM – MR SLIN LFT: its the tryharding
10:01 PM – MR SLIN LFT: as long as you tryhard on an offclass its good
10:01 PM – MR SLIN LFT: cause people want to offclass in pugs
10:01 PM – MR SLIN LFT: it lets you learn different perspectives on the game
10:01 PM – MR SLIN LFT: get into the heads of the other classes
10:01 PM – MR SLIN LFT: but you dont learn anything unless the pug is competitive
10:01 PM – MR SLIN LFT: and balanced

thoughts?

misterslin

TLDR; you can read what is applicable to you:

captain system is a MUST in all situations

invite-level pugs: offclassing is OK but make sure you tryhard so that you learn something about the game from the experience.

open pug systems for everyone (#tf2.pug.na): do NOT make the channel invite only to add to the pug. it makes people unhappy and is an unnecessary barrier. all you need is a captain system and the bad players will naturally get sorted out (we call it FATKIDDING like the kids who never got picked for sports teams). we don’t require captains to have a minimum number of games in NA, but if you pick a team that loses 5-0 then you’re banned from captain for a day.

people will stop whining about not getting invited to pu2 if you do this, and captains naturally sort due to their desire to not get dunked on in the pug and look like a shitty.

WiK?

I’d agree, but the open systems are even less active than the invite.

envy

Talking about open pugs, 3/4 of the community don’t even speak English on the level to make basic calls. That’s why national pug channels are always more populated / active, than european ones, just like in most other games. End of the story.
