ETF2L Recruiting

Date March 2, 2014

ETF2L STAFF IS RECRUITING!

ETF2L is once again actively looking for volunteers to help run and maintain the league. We are looking specifically for

  • Highlander Admins
  • Anti-Cheat Admins
  • Newspost/Coverage Writers
  • Coders
  • Media Producer/Designer

As the Coder requires some more specific knowledge, here is some more information:

ETF2L is looking for a backend developer who is fluent in PHP and knows his way around jQuery and CSS.

We also use Git, MySQL (MariaDB, actually!) nginx, some Ruby and Python, and of course the WordPress codex, so if you are at all familiar with any of those things, consider yourself lucky!

Due to the complexity of the ETF2L backend, it is of great importance that you know what it is being used for and how it is being used. As such, the ideal candidate would be willing to do some League Admin work preceding and/or alongside their coding duties. You’ll get even more bonus points if you can work in a team as well as being able to take initiative yourself and completing tasks alone.

Working on the ETF2L codebase is a true challenge. It has been modified, managed and cursed by many past programmers with different levels of skill and different programming standards. For that reason and others it is also important that you can handle confidential information with the appropriate care.

This does not mean we are full in the other roles, we always read and consider every application sent to us! If you are interested in any of the roles on the Staff, send an email to [email protected] with the following information:

  • Name
  • ETF2L profile link
  • Country of residence
  • Age
  • Previous experience
  • Special skills or contacts that may help the league (optional)
  • Available free time

Don’t worry we don’t bite! Well, SonnyBlack does but we keep him in his cage until it’s time to make the 6v6 divisions.

what exactly does Media producer and AC staff does?

    And return Ultiduo/Bball cups already!

Media Producer is responsible for designing and creating banners for Seasons/Cups yourself and anything else you want to create (season trailers/anything you can come up with).

AC Staff take anti-cheat requests and check suspected cheaters’ demo’s. You’d also need to check for VAC bans however this is very straight forward. You’ll need to have some experience in the field for this one, as it’s not always very obvious.

By newswriters/coverage writers, do you mean the newsposts before matches?

Or are there other jobs involved? I.e. research of teams etc

AC members need have a good sense of trust and morality, additionally be excited by detective work, technical aspects of the source engine that comes with demo viewing and cheats and such.
To have no bias and be respectful of the democratic process on voting.

Please don’t be intimidated to apply, it is a position that you can really only improve best on with real experience.

If you have questions at all, don’t hesitate to add me on steam and ask.

How is your process regarding your backlog? In other words, how is it decided if an idea is good enough to be implemented, and who decides in which order the work items should be worked on?

There is no formal process. Ideas are sanity-checked by head admins, but priorities other than “critical”, as well as which items to work on, are decided by coders themselves.

hi i beasted the pub can i apply for highlander admin

  18. Gentlemare Lyra said:

How much experience do you need to become AC or HL admin?

  19. Lazybear: MUUQ - itsallgood said:

Not strictly mandatory to have experience, but of course an application is weighted between it’s peers so it’s always helpful to have experience. We don’t want people to be afraid of applying because they feel they’re not experienced enough either, so it’s a balance.

can I become AC admin pls?

  26. konr said:

Ironically I heard that I’m not trustworthy but know my shit from someone that is obviously considered trustworthy enough to be in there :D

  27. Permzilla: (Legend) - (☞゚ヮ゚)☞ - WiK? said:

Leaking confidential information is a lot more serious than saying something everyone already knows

  28. konr said:

Everyone already knows what is being said in the admin threads about me and others? No matter, I don’t actually care if I’m an admin or not I’m just offering to help because let’s face it 99% of people that apply to be an AC admin have absolutely no idea what they’re talking about.

  29. quintosh: wL. said:

    You’re wrong ;-)

  30. konr said:

I’m wrong about people applying not knowing anything about the subject?

  31. quintosh: wL. said:

    Yes

  32. konr said:

Almost every example I’ve seen has proven otherwise mate

  33. quintosh: wL. said:

    and those examples were…?

  34. konr said:

Those examples are not going to be posted in public and are purely my own opinion anyway. They’re just my reasoning for applying because it’d be nice if the league had more people that knew more than the basics.

  35. Popcorp said:

Can we have Forum Moderators? B)

  36. Spike Himself: TC said:

Forum moderation is included in the league admin’s job (and/or anyone else who has the rights)
