1st ETF2L Ultiduo Cup

We are proud to present the first ETF2L Ultiduo Cup! It will be starting on Sunday 10th July, from 20:00 CEST. The cup itself will run over two Sundays. The first 4 rounds will be played on Sunday 10th July, while the quarter, semi and grand final will be on Sunday 17th July. Simply create a 2v2 team and you’ll be able to signup. You can do this through Team Admin (top right), then teams (on the left), register team, fill in the details and you’re ready.
So what is ultiduo? The combo from 6v6 (medic and soldier) work together to kill the opponent combo. It is King of the Hill; the objective is to capture the point and hold it for 5 minutes. All games this tournament are best-of-three, so the first to win two rounds wins! If you want to see what it’s like, see the final from cup #4 here (#7’s VOD was unfortunately removed). Please note: this cup is experimental. The focus of our attention is the whip for soldier (The Disciplinary Action). It resembles item named Haste in Quake (father of Team Fortress game series). You can discuss The Disciplinary Action here.

Angel) – $ 200 first place, $ 100 second place - Unlocks – Medic: Blutsauger & Ubersaw allowed; Soldier: all unlocks banned, except The Disciplinary Action. Shovel (or Frying Pan since they are identical) is allowed, The Disciplinary Action is no longer mandatory.

Unlike most other cups, we run a ‘check-in’ after signups close but before brackets are drawn. This is to ensure only teams that are available to play are put into the brackets. To check-in, teams must join #etf2l (on IRC – here) between 18:40 and 19:40 CEST on Sunday 10th. This can be done by saying “teamname checking in for ultiduo” (replace with your teamname) in the chat.
We will also be quite lenient with mercs and defaults. We want as many people to play as many games. Therefore, if you do not have two players when you want to check-in, tell us and you can use a merc. This merc has to be used throughout the tournament and you cannot use your previous partner at any point during the tournament once a merc is used. We also want people to play their games as quickly as possible but appreciate this may not always be possible. If a team is 10 minutes late they will lose by default unless they have told an admin (
Imperium or Angel) in IRC that their game has started late.
For anyone wondering why this cup is single elimination rather than double elimination (like the last cup), we are experimenting. We may continue alternating (or not!) between the two types, we’ll tell you once we’re certain. Equally, we’re likely to play around/ask for feedback on unlocks new & old after this cup or in the near future. But for now, get signing up!

Why try out a melee weapon in a game-mode that hardly uses melee (in sollies case)…?
Yeah what Califax says… I don’t see any occasion in Ultiduo where it would be usefull to use the whip, but we’ll see what happens :)

I don’t have the disciplinary action… and why is it being tested in ultiduo? This makes little to no sense to me.
I have no idea why you would want to test that thing in the first place. And if u do, why in ultiduo ?_?

yea, the DA’s speedbuff, doesn’t seem all that useful in Ultiduo. Would be more interesting to test for Rollouts imho.

How the hell is this testing the whip? It will hardly make a difference in ultiduo and can make a huge difference in a real game.
Its testing for ultiduo as far as I know, it does not have a direct connection with 6v6
the whip is stupid for an ultiduo map.
Doesn’t Haste make you fire faster too? :E
How can you say the whip is useless ?? It is useless in a fight but can be very useful to help a medic to keep up ! It’s a perfect choice for this kind of match-up.

2 Admirable: No, Disciplinary Action isn’t accelerate fire speed. Сite from TF2 wiki: upon striking a teammate with Disciplinary Action, both the Soldier and the receiving teammate will receive up to a 40% speed boost (capped at Scout speed) for four seconds. As a downside, the riding crop deals 25% less damage to enemies.

Hi, I’m super new to competitive TF2, but I couldn’t figure out how to sign up for this. The “Now” link by the sign-ups bullet just brings me to a wordpress login page. When I create an account and login, it brings me to a page that it says I don’t have sufficient permissions to view. Some please help, I’d really like to sign up for this event! Thanks!

Sign in, make a team there (make sure it’s 2v2!). Then add another player (http://etf2l.org/wp-admin/index.php?page=teams then click ‘edit roster’, fill in the username and click add player. Then you can signup in that page :)
